Workout or Exercise?

I hear so many people complain that they don’t enjoy working out. The truth is that I don’t enjoy working out either. I think slogging along for 45 minutes on an elliptical machine is about as much fun as waiting in line at the bank. Now, on the other hand, I love to exercise. I know what you’re thinking: “Aren’t they the same thing?” Well, that depends how you look at it. On weekends, for example, I like to mountain bike, hike and snowboard. The other day, I spent an entire afternoon shoveling my driveway, opting not to use my snow blower. At the end I was exhausted but felt great knowing I burned a ton or calories and strengthened my muscles. That’s how I prefer to exercise.

They may not be considered ‘workouts,’ but many activities are just as effective at keeping you healthy. More importantly, they can be things you actually enjoy doing. Sure, shoveling snow may not be your idea of fun but there are plenty of other ways to get the heart pumping. Here are a few for you to consider:

Try DANCE or TENNIS lessons. Ride a BIKE around town. Take up SWIMMING. Go for a HIKE or SNOWSHOE in the woods. ICE SKATING can burn a ton of calories. Try a GROUP EXERCISE class. Take BOXING lessons. WALK or RUN several flights of stairs. Hire a PERSONAL TRAINER to kick your butt.

The key is finding an activity you enjoy and that will keep you consistent. Now get out there and MOVE YOUR BODY, any way you see fit. (Pun intended)
